From Backend to Full-Stack:A Developer’s Journey at Cubet

Stepping out of your comfort zone is never easy, but that’s where real growth begins. For Anitha, it started with moving beyond her familiar role as a backend developer and diving into the world of full-stack development at Cubet. In this chat, she opens up about what helped her along the way; from the supportive culture and exciting projects to having the space to try, learn, and grow.

Q: If you had to describe your first week at Cubet in one feeling or moment, what would it be, and why?

My first day was a mix of nerves and excitement. After spending years in my previous company, starting fresh felt like a big leap. But by the end of the first week, everything already felt different in a good way. The environment felt fresh and welcoming. It didn’t feel like a typical corporate setup. Everyone was friendly, easy to approach, and there was no sense of hierarchy. No one acted “too senior” to talk to. It felt like a place where everyone is part of the same team, and that made all the difference.

Q: What’s one thing about Cubet’s culture that genuinely surprised you when you joined?

What surprised me most was how open and approachable the culture is. From the first week, I realised you can talk to anyone, no matter their role or seniority, and people are always willing to help. There’s no sense of hierarchy in how we interact. The office space added to that feeling. It doesn’t look or feel like a traditional office. It’s an open setup where everyone sits together and mixes naturally, which makes collaboration effortless. I was also surprised by how naturally learning happens here. Because the projects use modern technologies, staying updated doesn’t feel forced. The environment itself pushes you to grow.

Q: Over the past year, what contributed to your growth both as a developer and as a person?

This past year has contributed a lot to my growth, both technically and personally. I joined as a backend developer, and over time I naturally moved into a full-stack role. I got the space to explore frontend technologies, try things out, make mistakes, and learn from them. Looking back, I feel I should have taken that step much earlier. What really made the difference was the support I received from my leads and the collaborative environment here. There are no barriers when you want to try something new. That openness helped me step out of my comfort zone and become more confident, more adaptable, and a more well-rounded developer.

Q: You began as a backend developer. What sparked your interest in moving toward front-end development?

I was very comfortable in my backend role, but the project I joined at Cubet required full-stack capability. That’s what nudged me toward the frontend. Once I got involved with UI work, I realised I enjoyed it because it gave me a more complete understanding of how the product comes together. I also knew that full-stack skills make you more versatile and valuable. My project manager encouraged me to explore it, experiment, and learn from mistakes, and that support helped me transition smoothly into a full-stack role.

Q: Was there a moment when you realised, “I’m truly growing into a full-stack engineer now”?

Yes, there was a very clear moment. Initially, I supported the frontend side with small tasks like testing components, fixing minor UI issues, or trying out snippets. It helped me learn, but it didn’t feel like full-stack work yet. Everything changed when my lead trusted me with a complete module. I had to build it from scratch using Vue for the frontend and Laravel for the backend. Delivering that module end-to-end, seeing it work smoothly, and getting appreciation from the client made me realise I wasn’t just supporting anymore; I was actually growing into a full-stack engineer.

Q: What did you learn about yourself as a developer this year?

This year I learned that I’m far more adaptable than I thought. Moving from backend to frontend pushed me out of my comfort zone and made me realise that I genuinely enjoy learning new things when the opportunity comes up. I also discovered that I prefer seeing the full picture of a product, not just one part of it. Working across both sides helped me build confidence, trust my ability to figure things out, and take ownership of complete features.

Q: Is there a project or task that pushed you out of your comfort zone and helped you grow in a positive way?

Yes. The insurance project I’m working on has pushed me the most. It’s a fast-moving system with many active users, and we’re constantly releasing new features in real time. That pressure means everything has to be reliable and well-structured. Working in that environment has sharpened my skills and helped me grow quickly as a full-stack developer. It also taught me the importance of coordinating closely with the entire team and staying aligned, because delivering in such a dynamic project truly requires everyone to work together.

Q: What keeps you motivated to keep learning and exploring new technologies?

Learning has become a habit. We’re always exploring new tools and technologies, taking certifications, and trying out better ways to solve problems. For me, that curiosity is what drives me. Every new framework or tool opens up smarter ways to work, and that’s something I genuinely enjoy.

Q: What are you excited to explore next in your career journey at Cubet?

I’m excited to keep building on my current skills and grow into a stronger and more well-rounded engineer. With AI becoming such an important part of modern applications, I want to explore that space more deeply. I’m looking forward to working on features that challenge me technically and help me understand how AI can be integrated into real products in meaningful ways.

Q: If you could give one piece of advice to Anitha, who joined this company a year ago, what would it be?

I’d tell the old me to believe in yourself a little more. Stay curious and open, but don’t worry if things feel overwhelming at first. Take everything one step at a time and trust that every opportunity, even the tough ones, is shaping you into who you’re meant to become. Be brave enough to try and gentle with yourself while you learn. You’re growing more than you realise.

Explore. Evolve. Build.

From backend foundations to full-stack expertise, Anitha’s journey at Cubet reflects our belief in hands-on growth, continuous learning, and building confidence through real challenges.
